- Don't let insurance drive the quality and availability of quality mental health services in our state!!
Recent news around LPC licensing and a counselor's ability to bill insurance reminds us all of how often insurance seems to drive our health care system. Passing a bill that eliminates licensed professional counselors from the available pool of mental health providers in Michigan that can bill insurance would allow insurance companies to further drive the low cost of reimbursement for mental health care. This recent threat in our news on top of the reality that, despite the Affordable Care Act intended to allow all people access to health care, would multiply the number of people who lack the resources needed for quality Mental Health care in Michigan and around the country due to high deductibles, low reimbursements, and a shortage of quality mental health providers accepting insurance.
